Blue Sea Systems presents the 285-Series 50A circuit breaker for panel mounting, model 7083-BSS. It's a great replacement for 185-Series circuit breakers. The visible reset lever clearly shows the open condition. This breaker is ignition protected, making it safe for gasoline-powered boats. It meets SAE J1171 external ignition protection requirements and is weather resistant. It combines switching and circuit breaker functions in one unit, but don't use it as a switch for high inrush currents. It's 'Trip Free', so it can't be held closed after tripping. Specifications include 50A amperage, 48V DC maximum voltage, surface mounting, a thermally responsive bi-metal blade, 60 in-lb (6.78 Nm) terminal stud torque, 3000A interrupt capacity at 48V, -40°C minimum and 85°C maximum operating temperatures, Type III circuit breaker class, and M6 terminal studs that accept 1/4' ring terminals.

Using this Blue Sea 285-Series circuit breaker is easy. First, make sure you mount it on a flat surface as it's a surface-mount type. Connect the wires to the M6 terminal studs and tighten them to 60 in-lb (6.78 Nm) of torque. When the breaker trips, the reset lever will show the open condition. Simply reset it to get the power back. This breaker is great for gasoline-powered boats as it's ignition protected, but always follow local safety regulations. Don't use it as a switch when you expect high inrush currents. To keep it in good shape, check it regularly for any signs of damage or wear. Keep it clean and dry, especially since it's weather resistant. If you notice any issues, replace it right away. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C, so avoid using it outside of this range.
