The solar panel will charge the rechargeable AAA (Ni - MH) battery. At dusk, it will automatically turn on and provide up to 12 hours of illumination. When it comes to maintenance, since it's waterproof to IP65 standard, you don't have to worry much about water damage. But it's a good idea to clean the solar panel regularly with a soft cloth to keep it charging efficiently.
