Product Detail

The Blue Sea Systems 285-Series 120A circuit breaker is a great choice for panel mounting. Model 7088-BSS, it's a direct replacement for 185-Series circuit breakers. It features a visible reset lever to show the open condition. It's ignition protected, safe for gasoline-powered boats, and meets SAE J1171 external ignition protection requirements. It's also weather-resistant. This breaker combines switching and circuit breaker functions in one unit, but don't use it as a switch for high inrush currents. It's 'trip free', meaning it can't be held closed after tripping. Specifications include 120A amperage, 48V DC maximum voltage, surface mounting, a thermally responsive bi-metal blade, 60 in-lb (6.78 Nm) terminal stud torque, 3000A interrupt capacity at 48V, -40°C minimum and 85°C maximum operating temperatures, Type III circuit breaker class, and an M6 terminal stud that accepts a 1/4' ring terminal.

Using the Blue Sea 285-Series 120A circuit breaker is easy. First, make sure to mount it on a suitable surface as it's a surface-mounted device. Connect the wires to the M6 terminal stud, which can accept a 1/4' ring terminal, and tighten to the recommended 60 in-lb (6.78 Nm) torque. This breaker is safe for gasoline-powered boats due to its ignition protection, but always follow all safety procedures. When it trips, you'll see the visible reset lever show the open condition. Just reset it when you're ready. Remember, don't use it as a switch where high inrush currents are expected. For maintenance, check it regularly for any signs of damage, especially if it's exposed to the weather. Keep it clean and dry. If you notice any problems, it's best to replace it to ensure proper operation. The breaker works well in a temperature range from -40°C to 85°C, so avoid using it outside of this range.
