Product Detail

Blue Sea Systems presents the 285-Series 80A surface-mount circuit breaker, model 7186-BSS. It's a great replacement for 185-Series breakers. The visible reset lever clearly shows the open condition. It's ignition protected, making it safe for gasoline-powered boats. It meets SAE J1171 external ignition protection requirements and is weather-resistant. This breaker combines switching and circuit breaker functions in one unit (but don't use it as a switch for high inrush currents). It's 'Trip Free', so it can't be held closed after tripping. Specifications include 80A amperage, 48V DC maximum voltage, surface mounting, a thermally responsive bi-metal blade, 50 in-lb (5.65 Nm) terminal stud torque, 3000A interrupt capacity at 48V, -40°C minimum and 85°C maximum operating temperatures, Type III class (switchable/manual reset - trip free), and an M6 terminal stud (accepts 1/4' ring terminal).

Using this Blue Sea 285-Series circuit breaker is straightforward. First, make sure to mount it on a flat surface as it's a surface-mount type. Connect the wires to the M6 terminal stud and tighten to the recommended 50 in-lb (5.65 Nm) torque. When the circuit has an issue and the breaker trips, the visible reset lever will show it's open. Simply reset it manually. Remember, don't use it as a switch when there are high inrush currents. Keep it in an environment between -40°C and 85°C. Since it's weather-resistant, it can handle normal outdoor conditions. But if it gets dirty, gently clean it with a dry cloth. Regularly check the connections to ensure they're tight and there are no signs of damage.
